Re: guitar player's journal

Hi! I went to the Polish Tatras a few days back, staying at the touristy spot in the said mountains. However, since this was outside of season there were not that many people. Still some snow on the peaks which we managed to tackle with Scarpa boots. Thinking I would get a few pairs of these boots, ...

A good book (in my opinion, I got it for my dad but unsure he took any lessons from it for after retirement) is https://lubimyczytac.pl/ksiazka/3827344/zycie-postkorporacyjne-czy-jestes-gotowa-do-wczesniejszej-emerytury Slawek Muturi is a person on the Polish FIRE scene worth getting familiar with I...

Re: Embracing Solitude: INTJ's Journey Towards Retirement

Hmm maybe you have some poor experiences with psychotherapists. I am not one but I took some courses on it. Briefly, there are three kinds of norms entertained in the context of clinical psychology / psychotherapy. The first one is about sigmas and deviation from mean, but this is mostly or only use...

Re: Embracing Solitude: INTJ's Journey Towards Retirement

DW and I were talking about taking some complex blood tests whilst being in Poland as they cost ‘only’ around up to $140 compared to several times the amount in the UK. Also, Psychology is generally US driven these days (compared to 100 years ago), so there is a huge internal push to shape psycholog...

That was also my first question about taking scissors in a carry on - anyone has got experience of this working? Think tent pegs cannot be taken like this, for example.

I am rooting for the UK system to be going strong into the future at least at half the current rate (which I think is safe but plan otherwise anyway), it being a relatively ‘cheap’ compared to elsewhere in Europe. Half the current rate will fund 70-100% of an ere lifestyle. But @ertyu, I will stop s...

Re: Physics experiments for 4-8 yo

It’s really cool to revisit all this stuff - can make one feel grounded in a different way than pushing a wheelbarrow can make one feel grounded. I think I was particularly unlucky with my high school physics teacher who was off to be pregnant twice across my high school years which was then in turn...

Oh crap, maybe my mum has been cynical after all and I am just wearing idealist glasses all too often. I will ask her next time I see her.

How do you typically get yourself fired, is there a general consensus about this happening or you actually need to underperform or something along those lines?

Re: Physics experiments for 4-8 yo

Cool thanks! I see this evoked some fond memories :)

I've shared the link to this thread with DW so she'll make the most out of it hopefully, maybe even post ! (I know she has an account on the forum)

Physics experiments for 4-8 yo

DW is taking part in an activity where she and a few other people are going to be showing physics experiments for 4-8 year old children. The whole activity will last about 40 min, the aim it to plant love for physics in children' minds. The question is what experiments are likely to gain most tracti...

Yeh another take is to just marvel at the construction. I had been watching an interview with Frans de Waal the other day where he argued that life in captivity can be a perfectly fine life with all necessary and sufficient conditions for a good life. Also the good old debate on determinism.

The downside is that aging theoretically makes it more challenging to secure employment.
Yeah I've been thinking about this the other day. I think due to demographic shifts in the developed world, it might be very easy to make money for people of any age in, say, 2050 if they are willing to work.

Re: 3 yrs to FI: ertyu's journal

The good news is that each year that you still work, you can subtract 12k or 8k from the 600k or 400k, respectively - because you will be one year older :) so it will converge rather quickly. This is my personal back of the envelope theory, is that if extreme early retirement is maybe hard, less ext...

Depending how (cynical) you feel about work and what are the employment laws in Poland currently, some people game the system to get redundancy money at the end of their work - when the time comes for you to call it quits. With no cynicism whatsoever, when my mum was in her late 50s there's been thi...

Hi, I PMed you about the Morskie Oko spot, this would fit perfectly our itinerary.

These can really be dangerous ideas for me to think, because appealing.

Thanks all for the congrats! Sometimes I struggle to communicate with folk at work that I am into working on interesting stuff rather than for 'money' or 'job security' (these still to some small extent though), but I manage to find my way. On Spanish, the thing is I should have it better integrated...

On the #Improvements/Inspiration, good music! Also, I am an immigrant and DW as well, think some form of emigration / immigration should be ...

I was just going to ask! Do you have any (even vague) write up on the 'water divide' anywhere on the Internet? We planned cycling from the source of Rhine to its mouth in 2020 but it did not work out because of lockdown. So have an outstanding trip there. I am slowly reintroducing exploring the wide...
