Re: Loutfard's journal
- Summer house. The magnificent linden tree next to our summer house lost an enormous branch during a storm last Saturday. As it stands, it threatens the house. Chances are we will have to have it cut back by almost half, or even entirely. A shame really, and a bit stressful. A close friend and neig...

Take the money if this correctly reflects value, and rent a small place of your own. As has been suggested several times before.

Re: Funding nursing home for parents
The way I understand what you say, the care home's 'care of life' guarantee is a kind of annuity on its own, subsidised by government and charitable donations. If you are sure that their care is just as good for the guaranteed/subsidised clients as for the full rate ones, that looks like the best so...

Re: Low Income, Early 20s, Anti-Wage-Slave Living: Walwen's Journal
At my mother's university, an entry level administrative position opened up. It's not just a matter of nepotism, ... I just don't think I can turn it down. ... There are two hard parts. I still don't drive, so this means I'll have a lot, lot more interaction with my mom. The other hard part is that...

Re: Investments Trade Log
You'd have more than doubled your money in 7 years. That's pretty great. CPI/inflation went up 25% in the same period. Of course in my country (DK) 50% of the return would probably go to taxes, leaving a 25% actual return after inflation and taxes. I've just read the tax summary for Denmark . Some ...

Social capital
*Disclaimer: I'm not very well-read on this subject and would welcome reading material suggestions.* ERE2 the way I understand it is about increasing social capital between EREmites. If that is the case, a goal might be to have social capital circulate more intensively. How can that be done? Some ra...

Re: Loutfard's journal
I'm researching the retirement rules applicable to me. They look extremely tailored to "work until 67 and don't think of doing anything that deviates from the norm": - The pension rules are arcane and neigh impossible to research. - The public pension administration does not provide me wit...

My favourite uncle used to honestly answer this kind of question with "as little as possible", then start to speak about his latest projects - usually musical ones.

Re: Loutfard's journal
Good you take it well! I always struggle despite best efforts, the monkey in me. There was a bit of "oh, crap" feeling. The feeling didn't last long. Some very smart friends and I had planned a long weekend hacking on a free software/open hardware project. On Saturday evening, I was absol...

Re: Death and Dying
Planning for old age is relatively easy and I guess comes almost naturally to most ERE people. Prevention, testament, living in an environment compatible with old age, ... Planning for the end of one's body as a living organism on the other hand... There's only so much one can do. Planning for eutha...

This really is good feedback, 1 and 2 in particular are very useful Yes indeed. I was a bit worried about my technical skills and lack of recent formal relevant experience being the most likely bottleneck. Like... "Is he able to do the actual work?". I didn't have enough calibration to th...

They picked a different candidate. I got surprisingly candid feedback: - "You seemed nervous during the interview." - "You had difficulties answering our questions in a straightforward way." - "We really appreciated your broad technical basis." - "We were impressed...

I checked out of sheer curiosity. Food is not included in the Bahncard it seems.
