There is no free lunch. Higher reward comes with higher risk. That said, I am personally fascinated with the universe of closed end funds. At the height of the last market down turn, one could buy a PIMCO fund yield 20%+. Over the last two years of researching them, I have read a number of articles and forum posts of wizened older investors who have taken advantage of CEFs to provide very high levels of income in retirement. I have not invested in any yet because I am waiting for more extreme discounts. PS - There seems to be very strange rumbles in the high yield market even as we speak.

"Higher reward comes with higher risk."
While, that is true the majority of the time, there are a fair number of instances when it's not. This is when you make the real money. One of the most well known investment axioms that defines the "high reward with low risk" investment is the "be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful." In my mind if you had to pick one strategy to invest with, this is it.
I'm hoping we get a little more fear.
